Solids!!

So when we went to little man's 4 month dr. appt, the doc gave the green light to start him on solids, especially since he seems hungry all the time! I have been carefully researching the past couple of weeks on how to make our own baby food for 2 reasons:

1. It's much healthier (fresher, no preservatives, more true to the taste of the food), and
2. It's waaay cheaper. (example, I pureed 4 bananas and got 12 -1 oz servings out of it, and the bananas cost less than $1. At walmart, a 2 pack of gerber bananas cost $.88)

I ordered a few products to help me in this endeavor, and am eagerly waiting for them to come in so I can get started!  I will do another blog on making his own baby food later because I think I'm going to really enjoy it, but I decided to start with rice cereal (with some applesauce mix in) after talking with the dr. to see if that helps with his reflux since we had to up his dosage of reflux medicine. I actually was planning on skipping the cereal initially, but I'm hoping this more natural route might help with his reflux.  He did great! He made some hilarious faces, and of course had some initial trouble with learning how to work his tongue, but after a few nights of this, he does much better and is quickly getting the hang of it. Way to go buddy! Here are some pics from our first adventure eating solids.

Here we go.....

mmmmm...yummy.

Happy 4 months!

Little man is 4 months old!!! Here are some of his 4 month growth pictures and milestones! At his 4 month checkup, he weighed 14 lbs 10oz and was 26 inches tall! Growing boy! That is 2 pounds heavier and 2 inches taller than at his 2 month appointment.

He loves grabbing his feet!

He doesn't stay on his belly long these days, he flips himself right over
I think that this picture actually looks like me when I was a baby

Happy 4 months sweet boy!

Some things that he is doing now:
1. laughing--- what a sweet sweet sound, right now it takes some effort to make him laugh, but it's so worth it!
2. chewing... on EVERYTHING---  fingers, fists, shoulders (I have the hickey to prove it), toys, sadie's toys (oops) ...you name it, it goes in his mouth
3. cutting teeth--- I can see the tooth shaped holes on the front bottom two teeth where they will pop through, which means lots of fussing lately.
4.  hugging--- well, i qualify it as hugging, he loves stretching his arms around me and burying his head into me. it melts my heart.
5. grabbing... EVERYTHING--- again, like with chewing, you name it, he grabs at it. toys, hair (Ouch!), anything in his reach. He figured out his jitterbug toy on his carseat handle, so I will be driving down the road and hear him pull it and it jitter, over and over again.
6. singing --- i know it sounds far-fetched, but he really does "sing." I noticed it one day a few weeks ago when he was really sleepy and I was rocking him, he began talking as he normally does, but in a different way. He was stringing his sounds together and making his voice go up and down and was doing it very softly, much different sounding than his normal talking voice. He sings himself to sleep quite a bit now, and it's the sweetest thing because it is so tender.

He is doing great developmentally, he smiles at people he recognizes, talks a lot, and is really starting to understand the concept of "playing."  Still no progress on the sleeping, although he is napping has improved a little bit. It will come in his own time I suppose.
